Itinerary

Like a masterpiece painting, the idyllic Amalfi Coast evokes a sense of wonder. This 30-mile stretch of charming coastal towns is an adventure through nature’s genius — with colorful lemon groves sweeping across its hills, rocky coastlines and glistening Mediterranean waters. Combining planned activities with plenty of unscripted moments allows for you to paint the picture of your Amalfi adventure — in your own personal way.

Day 1: Naples

Our journey begins in Naples where you can arrive anytime today. After making your way to your hotel, join your fellow travelers this evening for a discussion on the days ahead.

Day 2: Naples

Naples is an evocative city that overflows with tradition and gastronomy. Carved out by many empires, the city shows the historic influence of Romans, Phoenicians, Venetians, Spaniards, Normans and Africans. We’ll head beneath the streets to see the captivating ancient underground city of Napoli Sotterranea. While Naples is the birthplace of pizza, we’ll discover during our foodie tour this evening that there are many other signature dishes.(b, d)

Day 3: Naples > Pompeii > Sorrento

Tour Mount Vesuvius this morning with the help of a local volcanologist. We’ll journey up the mountain by bus, and then ascend to the summit for stunning 360-degree views over the bay and into the crater. Spend some time in Pompeii this afternoon, perhaps by enjoying an Italian coffee in a local café. Pompeii was a thriving Roman trading center before it was frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in A.D. 79. The city was left untouched, covered in ash until its rediscovery in the 18thcentury. We arrive this evening in the seaside town of Sorrento. (b)

Day 4: Sorrento

Overlooking the Bay of Naples, Sorrento is a resort town made of plunging cliffs and tapered streets. An orientation stroll introduces us to this beautiful place known for frescoes, monasteries and traditional inlaid woodwork. A refreshing limoncello tasting is our reward after walking the narrow cobblestone alleys. The rest of the day is ours to craft — so why not soak up the beauty of this location and perhaps finish the day with dinner by the water? (b)

Day 5: Sorrento > Capri > Sorrento

A short boat ride brings us to the island of Capri. With its dramatic rocky coastline, natural grottoes, and fragrant citrus groves, Capri is home to holiday palaces and chic cafés. It’s your choice how you spend your day! Journey by boat to the fairy-tale waters of the Blue Grotto, or venture to the top of Monte Solaro by cable car. Enjoy a tasting of locally sourced limoncello before returning to the mainland. (b)

Day 6: Sorrento > Amalfi

Visit a local agritourism to taste their products and learn about the business of food in the region. Arriving in Amalfi, the rest of the day is yours to personalize your adventure. (b)

Day 7: Amalfi > Positano > Amalfi

Explore the dramatic landscape as we hike the trail of the famous Sentiero degli Dei (the Path of the Gods). Wander through fields of wildflowers, olive groves and vineyards — past stone huts and alongside sheer walls of granite. The trail ends in Positano, where you may wish to take a dip in the sea! (b)

Day 8: Amalfi

Today is yours to let your adventure unfold. Gather together with the group this evening for a tasting of local wines, followed by a final dinner together. (b, d)

Day 9: Amalfi

Our journey through picturesque Amalfi ends today. (b)
