Day 1: San José

Bienvenidos a Costa Rica! An included transfer brings you to your hotel. Meet your Local Leader and fellow travelers this evening. Tonight, in San José we’ll enjoy a local meal together. (d)

Day 2: San José > La Fortuna

Venturing into the Costa Rican jungle region of La Fortuna, we’ll zip line through the jungle canopy with spectacular views all around. Relax in a hot spring, where the mineral-rich thermal waters are heated from the majestic Arenal Volcano. Today, we’ll live the meaning of Pura Vida and Costa Rica’s wellness lifestyle. (b, d)

Day 3: La Fortuna

Today, our Insider Expert accompanies us on a hike through the rainforest, which is bursting with multiple varieties of flora and fauna. Along the base of the Arenal Volcano we find guava bushes, balsa, and bromeliads, sharing its space with deer, monkeys and turtles. From the Arenal Volcano’s observation point — the closest we can get to its base — we can appreciate its sheer size and magnificence. This evening, we’ll return to the hot springs. (b)

Day 4:  La Fortuna > Tortuguero National Park

The northern Caribbean coast, famous for its nesting grounds for sea turtles, awaits. Board a small boat and navigate the waterways into Tortuguero National Park, filled with freshwater creeks and lagoons. Internationally recognized for its protection of the endangered green turtle, the park is surrounded by dense rainforest. Our home for the next two nights — a riverbank lodge embedded in the rainforest — we will be able to walk to the local village and beaches, listening to the howler monkeys as we explore. (b, l, d)

Day 5: Tortuguero National Park

A morning kayak tour casts a new perspective of the park’s extensive network of waterways. We’ll connect with Caribbean culture through a visit to a local village, where we will learn about life in the heart of the jungle. An unscripted evening allows for you to write your own adventure — and if you visit July–October, that could include a sighting of the nesting of the green turtle!(b, l, d)

Day 6:  Tortuguero National Park > Puerto Viejo

Our last morning in Tortuguero National Park is perfect for wandering the beach or walking in search of the incredible birds that call this region home. In Puerto Viejo this evening, we’ll learn the secrets of Caribbean cuisine from our local friend, Veronica. Together, we’ll prepare an incredible meal, coupled with great company. (b, d)

Day 7: Puerto Viejo

Create your own adventure today by choosing one of two excursions. Perhaps you’ll select a visit to the Jaguar Rescue Center, dedicated to the rehabilitation of mistreated or orphaned animals. Here, in addition to the animal care services, they provide education and research opportunities for biologists, veterinarians and researchers from around the world. Or, choose a one-of-a-kind hike in Cahuita National Park, where coral reefs and white-sand beaches meet dense coastal jungle. Our foray into nature provides an up-close view of Costa Rica’s unique ecosystem. (b)

Day 8: Puerto Viejo > San José

We return to San José for one final night — in this land of natural wonders. (b)

Day 9: San José

Our adventure ends today for some, while other travelers continue with an extension to Panama City. (b)
