Itinerary

In Spain, historic treasures and culinary treats combine with stunning seashores and architectural marvels. Delve into the local culture with visits to art galleries and a chef-led paella cooking class. Insider Experts introduce you to a captivating history, as Spain and its many wonders come alive during this adventure in motion. Free time in each city allows for your adventure to unfold!

Day 1: Madrid

Welcome to Spain. Transfer to our hotel and this evening, we’ll join our Local Leader to preview the journey ahead. Later, we’ll dine at a favorite local restaurant. (d)

Day 2: Madrid

Uncover the hidden parts of Madrid during a walking tour of the city, led by an Insider Expert. The stirring history makes strolling the Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol a moving experience. After the tour, the rest of the day is yours to explore the city as you wish. Perhaps visit one of the world-famous museums or simply relax and enjoy tapas at a nearby café. (b)

Day 3: Madrid 

Traveling to the World Heritage City of Segovia, we’ll enjoy a guided tour that includes a visit to the Royal Mint of Segovia and the famous aqueduct, which is a landmark monument. Later, in Ávila, we’ll explore the striking medieval walls, towers and gates that dramatically surround this historic city.(b)

Day 4: Madrid > Cuenca

Leaving Madrid, we journey to the small town of Cuenca. Originally built as a defensive fortress, the charming town is now best known for its hanging houses. Walk across the stunning San Pablo Bridge and visit one of the houses before taking time for independent discovery. Perhaps an abstract art museum or local café will be part of your day’s story. (b)

Day 5: Cuenca > Valencia

Today we'll explore the Enchanted City (Ciudad Encantada). Thousands of years of water, wind and ice erosion have created unique formations in this national park, making it one of Spain’s most spectacular places. This afternoon, we'll venture to the coastal city of Valencia. (b)

Day 6: Valencia

Join the locals this morning with visits to the Mercado Colon, and Valencia's famous Mercado Central, one of Europe's oldest fresh food markets. Here, we’ll find ingredients to be used later at our paella cooking class. Continuing to the village of El Palmar, we'll put our skills to the test with a local chef who will show us how to cook authentic paella. Our action-packed day finishes with a picturesque boat ride around the tranquil Albufera lagoon, and a visit to a traditional farm house. Return to Valencia for an evening at leisure. (b, l)

Day 7: Valencia > Barcelona

Journey up the coast to Barcelona, where Catalan cuisine mixes seamlessly with Gothic architecture and quirky character. An unscripted afternoon lets you write your own adventure. Wander the labyrinthine streets of the old Gothic Quarter or visit the Picasso Museum. This afternoon, dive into the local tapas scene at one of our Insider Expert’s favorite spots, where you can try escalivada, patatas bravas or bunyols de bacallá. (b)

Day 8: Barcelona
