This adventure will take you inside the culture and history of this fascinating region as we experience life here alongside the local people.

Day 1: Lima

Welcome to Lima, Peru. Transfer to your hotel and explore your neighborhood; or relax and prepare for the adventure of a lifetime.

Day 2: Lima

Our morning meeting welcomes the group; you then decide how you’d like to explore Lima: by foot or by bike. The walking tour takes you through the old streets of this city, built on top of an existing palace and temples; the bike tour has us cycling down from the top of Morro Solar — with stunning views of shimmering Lima Bay. (b)

Day 3: Lima > Amazon

Going into the Amazon Jungle today after a short flight to Puerto Maldonado, we board a boat along the Madre de Dios River to Inkaterra Hacienda. After lunch, we’ll walk through Concepcion Trails — indoor nature trails — where we learn about the rainforest. At dusk, navigate by motorized canoe for a Twilight River excursion. (b, l d)

Day 4: Amazon

Venture further into the Amazon with a trek into Tambopata National Reserve — toward Lake Sandoval. Navigate by dugout canoe across mirror-like Oxbow Lake, which is home to abundant wildlife including otters, macaw and red howler monkeys. The Canopy and Anaconda Walk is your passage up towers and across hanging bridges. Breathtaking vistas are dotted with white-throated toucans, squirrel monkeys and the three-toed sloth. A Rainforest by Night excursion showcases another side of the jungle. (b, l d)

Day 5: Amazon > Cusco

We journey to Cusco today — the former capital of the Incan Empire. Take time to acclimatize to the city's 11,150 foot altitude. Relax or enjoy a light stroll around the continent's oldest continuously inhabited city.(b)

Day 6: Cusco

A walking tour showcases the charm and history of Cusco. This afternoon is free, so you can explore your way. Learn about Peruvian culture with a cooking class; or take a bike tour out to the impressive Sacsayhuamán fortress, the Tambomachay temple or more Inca sites. (b)

Day 7: Cusco > Aguas Calientes

In the Sacred Valley, we’ll visit a local community and learn about life in the Andes. Practice speaking Quechua while you enjoy a delicious lunch cooked by the locals. We visit the Ollantaytambo ruins before our train ride to Aguas Calientes — the town below Machu Picchu. Relax as we prepare for tomorrow’s adventure. (b, l)

Day 8: Aguas Calientes > Cusco

We will traverse the zigzagging road as we make our way toward the sacred Lost City of the Incas — Machu Picchu. Our Insider Expert brings the impressive ancient ruins — and Incan Empire’s masterpiece — to life. Explore this deeply stirring site, which some say is the spiritual vortex of the world. Many feel a palpable energy described as “tranquil.” The scenic train from Aguas Calientes takes us to Ollantaytambo before a transfer to our boutique hotel in Cusco. (b)

Day 9: Cusco

An unscripted day in Cusco is all yours. Later, a sunset stand-up paddleboard excursion at Piuray Lake is followed by a yoga session. Our amazing Peruvian adventure closes with a delicious dinner and stargazing under the Andean night sky. (b, d)
