DAY 2

After breakfast depart on a Morning Table Mountain & City Tour.

Highlights of this tour included the SA Museum, Cape Castle and Table Mountain (Weather permitting) and a visit the Cape Town Diamond Works.

The South African Museum is a window on the world of natural history, showcasing the bounty of nature, both present and past. Exhibitions and dioramas display hundreds of different species – inhabitants of land, sea or air – enabling visitors to view, under a single roof, creatures as diverse as dinosaurs, mammals, coelacanths, bats or even the fossilized remains of species from 250 million years ago. In the popular Discovery Room, children can discover nature by touch, feel and interaction.

Cape Castle - Built by the Dutch in 1666 after arrival, the Castle was erected as a 5 pointed star on the foreshore of Cape Town. It is today surrounded by a variety of other monuments and places of historical interest. The Castle of Good Hope is the oldest surviving building in South Africa.

Built between 1666 and 1679, this pentagonal fortification replaced a small clay and timber fort built by Commander Jan van Riebeeck in 1652 upon establishing a maritime replenishment station art the Cape of Good Hope for the Dutch East India Company, better known as the VOC (Verenigde Oos-Indische Compagnie). The Cape of Good Hope houses the regional headquarters of the South African Army in the Western Cape, the famous William Fehr Collection of historic artworks, the Castle Military Museum and ceremonial facilities for traditional Cape Regiments.

Table Mountain - Since the first person laid eyes on Table Mountain, it has exerted its powerful and charismatic pull, enchanting and drawing any and all that fall under its spell. The best views of Cape Town are seen from the top of Table Mountain. The Cableway summit is under 10 minutes and the cable car’s rotating floor ensures that all passengers have an aerial view of the city. Table Mountain is a sandstone plateau rising up above the Cape Flats. The top is approximately 1.8 miles/3km wide, and at its highest point, Maclears Beacon, rises to 3559 feet/1085m. Over the centuries it has become one of South Africa's most famous landmarks. The steep cliffs and rocky outcrops of the mountain play home to a number of plants and animals. The mountain is home to approximately 1470 species of plants; more than the entire British Isles! Complimenting this vast array of flora is a stunning range of fauna, some, like the Table Mountain Ghost Frog, being found in no other place in the world.

The Diamond Works is Cape Town’s finest jewellery experience. You will be greeted with a glass of bubbly and then offered an informative tour of The Diamond Works. Tanzanite boutique portrays a large selection of this exquisite but rare violet-blue precious gemstone. Showcases of beautifully crafted pieces of jewellery adorn the showroom along with loose stones should a personal design be preferred.

Dinner this evening will be a three-course meal at Savour Restaurant.

Black chairs, white marble pillars and a red and black wave carpet set the tone for this upmarket eatery. The global menu is inspired by Chef Michael Meyepa's travels around the world on "The World" and includes authentic dishes prepared in the tandoor and flat bread ovens.
OVERNIGHT: 15 on Orange Hotel
MEALS: Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 3

After breakfast at the hotel you will take a Full Day Cape Peninsula Tour.

Travel via the 12 Apostles Mountains and Hout Bay, as well as Chapmans Peak– one of the region’s most dramatic mountain drives offering amazing panoramic views over the city and environs. Chapmans Peak Drive winds it way between Noordhoek and Hout Bay. Situated on the Atlantic Coast, at the south-western tip of South Africa, it is one of the most spectacular marine drives anywhere in the world. The 5.5 miles/9km route, with its 114 curves, skirts the rocky coastline of Chapman's Peak, the 593m high southerly extension of Constantia Berg. The drive offers stunning 180° views over the ocean and mountains with Hout Bay in the distance.

Continue to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, established in 1939 to protect 7750 ha of indigenous flora and fauna. The reserve comes to an end at majestic Cape Point.

Situated at the junction of two of earth's most contrasting water masses - the cold Benguela current on the West Coast and the warm Agulhas current on the East Coast, the Cape of Good Hope is popularly perceived as the meeting point of the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans. Guests will take the funicular to the vantage point from where you will be able to witness the “meeting of the two oceans”.

Thereafter travel through the historic naval base of Simon's Town where guests will be able to visit a colony of African Jackass Penguins in their natural environment at Boulders Beach. Boulders Beach is a sheltered beach made up of inlets between granite boulders, from which the name originated. It is located in the Cape Peninsula near Simon's Town towards Cape Point near Cape Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is also commonly known as Boulders Bay. It is a popular tourist stop because of a colony of African Penguins which settled there in 1982. Boulders Beach forms part of the Table Mountain National Park. Although set in the midst of a residential area, it is one of the few sites where this vulnerable bird can be observed at close range, wandering freely in a protected natural environment. From just two breeding pairs in 1982, the penguin colony has grown to about 3000 in recent years. This is partly due to the reduction in commercial pelagic trawling in False Bay, which has increased the supply of pilchards and anchovy, which form part of the penguins' diet.

Lunch will be enjoyed at Seaforth Restaurant, which is beautifully located on Seaforth Beach in Simon's Town, adjacent to the Penguin Colony at Boulders Beach and boasts stunning views of the sea and mountains.

Return to Cape Town late afternoon.
